Why is self-care so essential?

Self-care means mindfully paying attention to your own physical, emotional and mental needs and standing up for them. Self-care is a prerequisite for well-being, inner balance and long-term health. Jim Rohn puts it in a nutshell: ‘Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live.’ 

Self-care is not selfishness

Do you often find it difficult to take time for yourself or being compassionate?
Do you even feel guilty when you put your own needs at the centre? Women in particular often struggle with inner resistance when it comes to self-care. Lack of time, the feeling of having to be there for others or the fear of appearing selfish prevent them from taking good care of themselves.

As the Dalai Lama once said: ‘Self-care is not selfishness.
